Perfect Day Trip

We were picked up just a short walk from the cruise port and were transported by a comfortable, air conditioned bus for the 50 minute ride to the site. Our guide was David Villagomez.

David was friendly, energetic and engaging, with an incredible breadth and depth of knowledgeable about history, archaeology and all things Mayan and Yucatan. His passion made the entire experience come alive, and he provided thoughtful answers to all our questions. A bonus was stopping along the road for a taste of fresh, ripe pineapple served with salt and smoked chili powder. Certainly a refreshing bargain at one dollar a bag. You can take a virtual tour before you go, thanks to Google streetview at 19.001893,-88.232918. But don't skip the actual tour!

Thanks, David for a quick but insightful glimpse into a fascinating culture and time.

Wir haben in amerikanischen Foren Native Choice als guten Veranstalter von Ausflügen an der Costa Maya immer wieder empfohlen bekommen, jenseitz der direkten Angebote der Kreuzfahrschiffe, preiswerter und persöhnlicher. Wir haben uns für den Ausflug Mayan Experience entschieden, um auch noch etwas direkten Kontakt zu jetzigen Maya und ihrer Kultur zu bekommen. Unsere Vorstellung war, eine hoffentlich nicht zu große Gruppe mit englischsprachigen Guide der sich etwas Mühe gibt mit uns und unseren bescheidenen Englischkenntnissen. Unsere Erwartungen wurden bei weiten übertroffen, denn wir trafen auf Andrea. Andrea ist Deutsche und arbeitet schon ein paar Jahre als Guide bei Native Choice. Viele Deutsche fanden bis jetzt wohl noch nicht den Weg zu Native Choice, denn laut Andrea, waren wir die ersten Landsleute die sie zu den Maya Ruinen führen durfte. Also bekammen wir gleich eine extra Behandlung. Im Auto vom Chef fuhr Sie uns ganz privat nach Chacchoben und gab uns eine ganz tolle Führung durch die Pyramiden. Andrea hat "Frühe amerikanische Geschichte" studiert und könnte uns viel spannendes über die Maya Vergangenheit berichten. Sie führte uns auch so durch die Anlage das wir möglichst immer unter uns blieben und tolle Bilder ohne andere Touristen machen könnten. Weiter ging der Ausflug ins Mayadorf wo wir noch einen interessanten Einblick in das heutige Leben der Maya bekamen, mit einen leckeren Essen frisch gekochte Hausfrauküche der Maya. Danke nochmal an Andrea für diesen tollen Tag!

Fantastic!

We booked a tour with Native Choice to Chaccoben Maya Ruins and Blue Lagoon adventure.

It was FANTASTIC!!!!!!
Thanks to Francisco our guide, the man is a wealth of information. Of Mayan ancestry Francisco has a deep love for archeology, Mayan history and culture, which he unselfishly shared with us with passion. The Mayan ruins did not disappoint us either; one can really see the grandeur of the Mayan era. It is a mystic place.
After our voyage in time we had lunch at the Blue Lagoon and of course some cocktail courtesy of the house, Jim and I enjoy the kaya very much, the resort is sublime a paradise with its tall palms and charming bungalows.
Thank you Francisco, thank you Native choice we had a great time.

Excellent Tour and Excellent Guides

Our tour was excellent. Our guide, Kasi, was knowlegeable and also spoke PERFECT English. The driver at the ruins was also very good.

I greatly enjoyed the tour in spite of rain and cool temperatures. We had a good lunch at the lake but no one really wanted to do snorkeling or kayaking because of the rain. I have taken a large number of private tours and this ranks near the top.

WOW, DO THIS TOUR!!!

I will never forget the day doing this tour, it was the high-light of my entire cruise.

We were fortunate enough to have had Ivan as our guide. The entire trip there he gave a great history talk and was funny and informative. He shared great accounts of his childhood playing at the ruins site before it became a government park. The entire trip is well worth your while.

Excellent Tour of Chachoben Ruins!!

The tour was exactly as described on the website!

It was safe, interesting, and fun with a super knowledgeable guide. The small size of the tour group (8) was perfect as our guide gave us a fascinating history of the Mayan culture and told us how the people in the area live today. He truly brought the ruins to life with his vivid descriptions of how people lived in the huge Mayan cities.

I highly recommend The Native Choice when you are in Costa Maya.

Extremely Informative!

Francisco was very prepared and gave an enormous amount of information to us. My friends went on another ruin tour and when we compared notes and pics, they were very sorry they missed such a wonderful tour with Francisco!!! He has such a passion for sharing all the information he gathers. It certainly shows how much of a veracious reader and researcher he is. He should be an anthropologist! I believe he has assisted on digs, due to his personal interest!
