Chacchoben experience

We had an excellent tour guide, Joel Perez, for our tour to the Chacchoben Ruins, I think we had 9 people on our tour. Joel was very knowledgeable about the history of the Costa Maya port and the surrounding towns. He was very well versed in his knowledge of Mayan history and the ruins themselves. He encouraged questions and was proud to speak about the Mayans and his origin. That made our tour that much more enjoyable. Our driver, Saul Rodriguez Macias, also acted as a tour guide for the Temples of the Sun and Moon, as Joel was still recovering for a motorcycle accident. Saul was also a very safe driver. I feel we had a much more personal experience and learned much more about the Mayan history and the ruins themselves, by only having 9 people in our group, compared to many more who took the same tour through the ship.

Great Experience

Saul (driver) & Joel (guide) were excellent, professional and very, very knowledgeable. Both of Mayan descent so knew what they were talking about. One of the more enjoyable excursions I took on this cruise. Highly recommend this company and excursion.

A Total Learning Experience

Take the 15-minute walk outside the port to the tour headquarters because you'll end up in a Mercedes van with a small number of other tourists with a native tour guide and careful driver. Maria, our guide, and Carlos, our driver, gave an overview to Maya culture, past and present, and dropped us in the hands of David, an utterly amazingly knowledgeable guide through the ruins. If you are not prepared to walk and climb, I would not recommend the trip but if you are, you will be thoroughly rewarded. Would love to take this tour many times with David.

learned a lot.

I think our guide's names were Alainah and Eric??? Or something similar? She was very lovely and thoughtful in her introductions to get us our bearings/orientation of the local area whilst leaving the technical archaeological stuff to Eric mostly upon arrival at the site. The tour was relaxed, learned a lot. Did a bit of climbing which was fun. But we were not pressured to do anything we did not want to do.
They were very thoughtful providing us with water even though technically we are in winter.
I can only emphasise just how considerate they were, even in their directions to find the office, outside of the port of Costa Maya. Thanks for looking after us

Most amazing excursion ever

Hoel was our tour guide, Melin our driver. We could not have asked for better service from either of them. Hoel was so knowledgeable about past and present Mayan culture. Our visit to the archeological site was impressive-both of our tour leaders were helpful in providing us with an understanding of Mayan civilization. The visit to the Mayan household was an experience of a lifetime! We were cordially greeted and welcomed into the home of Biki and Don Gregorio. They prepared a delicious lunch and allowed us to walk around their property to learn first hand about how they live. I highly recommend this excursion. Worth the short walk to Native Choice for this exceptional tour.

Awesome Local Company !

What an amazing experience. Thank you so much. The Mayan Experience tour exceeded our expectations. We travelled with a young child (14 month old) and the staff was incredible in ensuring that our needs were addressed. The information provided at the ruins by Joel Perez was most informative and personalized. Our driver Saul was so friendly and caring. He gave us water and was helpful with the baby. We also got to visit with a family for our lunch. Unfortunately I can't remember the driver and tour guide's name for that portion of our tour, but they were equally as professional and accommodating. The lunch was delicious and such a feast! The tour guide - She not only showed us how they grew and prepared the food but also took us thru the village to a local school so we could interact with and distribute small gifts we brought from home for the children.
