Join us in this expedition to the ruins of Kohunlich and admire one of the most studied sites in the area. Walk through the ruins of this ancient Mayan ceremonial center and climb its spectacular temple dedicated to the Sun God.

Explore one of the most outstanding sites in the area and discover the intricate decoration of one of its temples consisting of stucco masks that are part of a symbolic decoration system loaded with cosmic elements that reflect the importance of the cosmos for the ancient Maya.

Kohunlich Mayan Ruins Tour Details:

Price per person: Adults US$65.00, Children US$60.00.

Inclusions: Round transportation in air conditioned vehicles, travel insurance, English speaking guide, entrance fees, guided tour at ruins and bottled water.

Duration: 6 hours.

Departure times: This excursion departs from The Native Choice Hospitality Desk (just 150 yards) one hour after your cruise ship docks.

Deposit: A deposit of US$15.00 per person is required at the moment of booking to guarantee spaces for this excursion. Balance payment will be required ONLY in cash at check-in. You can also pay the total of your reservation at the moment of booking if you don't want to carry cash with you.

Your deposit is refundable if for any reason your cruise ship doesn't call port in Costa Maya.

Restrictions: Child rate applies for children under 12 years of age. There is no charge for children 5 years old or under.
There is a fee of US$5.00 (NOT included in the tour price) for the use of video cameras at the ruins, this fee is paid directly at the entrance of the site.

A MINIMUM OF 4 PARTICIPANTS IS REQUIRED TO OPERATE THIS TOUR
We usually make groups with other guests from your cruise ship interested in the same tour. If you book this tour with us and we don't get the minimum of participants required, we will inform you at least one week in advance and will offer you our best possible alternative.

Recommendations: Wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sun block lotion would also be a good idea. Consider bringing extra film (or an extra memory card) and batteries for your camera.

Our excursions depart from our office one hour after your cruise ship docks.

The following itinerary is an example to give you an idea of travel times and times spent at Kohunlich Ruins. This scenario would apply for a cruise ship arriving to Costa Maya at 8:00AM. Times vary depending on your ship's arrival time.

Kohunlich Mayan Ruins Tour Info:

The ride from Costa Maya to Kohunlich Ruins takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes. Most of the way the road is fairly new and in perfect conditions, however, the last 9KM the road becomes narrow and during the rainy season it could get a little bumpy.

Kohunlich, involves a considerable amount of walking since some sections could be away from the others. Expect to walk around 2 miles to see all areas open to the public.

This tour is suitable for anyone who enjoys adventure and children are always welcome to join as long as parents are aware of the time it takes to complete this tour. Specially since it involves +4 hours of traveling. At the site children of all ages enjoy the experience of walking and climbing this old Mayan city, where it is sometimes possible to observe (or hear) howler monkeys.

It is possible to climb most of the buildings.

For the moment, other than bathrooms, there aren't other services available at Kohunlich. We recommend to bring a snack.
Locals are currently working on a location close to the site where they will eventually sell their products. As of now, there aren't reports of when it will be in operation.
