Chacchoben Mayan Ruins Tour is presented by Ivan Cohuo and/or David Villagomez.
Ivan Cohuo is the youngest son of Serviliano Cohuo, the man who discovered the ruins of Chacchoben. Ivan was born and grew up at the ruins of Chacchoben. As a child he had the temples of this ancient city as his playground.
David, is an expert in herbolary. He acquired this knowledge directly from his grand mother who has served Chacchoben Village as the medicine woman and midwife.
Both of them are willing to share with you their insights of the Mayan life, culture and traditions.
CHACCHOBEN MAYAN RUINS TOUR DETAILS:
Inclusions: Round transportation in air conditioned vehicles, travel insurance, professional native guide, all entrance fees, guided tour at the ruins, bottled water at the beginning of the tour and courtesy drinks at the end.
Duration: 4 hours.
Deposit: A deposit of $10.00 USD per person is required at the moment of booking to confirm spaces for this excursion. Balance payment will be required ONLY in cash (Pesos or US Dollars) or Traveler's Checks at check-in.
Restrictions: Child rate applies for children under 12 years of age.
There is a fee of $4.00 USD (NOT included in the tour price) for the use of video cameras at the ruins, this fee is paid directly at the entrance of the site.
Recommendations: Wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sun block lotion would also be a good idea. Consider bringing extra film (or an extra memory card) and batteries for your camera. Also bring extra cash for shopping as credit cards are not accepted at Chacchoben Ruins.
Important Notice: Unless you request otherwise, our Chacchoben Mayan Ruins Excursion departs from our office at Costa Maya Inn Hotel one hour after the ship docks.
Your confirmation will include detailed directions on how to find us.
You can request to be picked up at the Costa Maya Port. However, please note that the port is private and that there is an extra fee of $10.00USD per person (NOT included in the tour price) for this service.
At the end of the tour we can drop you off either at Mahahual Village, or at the Costa Maya Port depending on your plans.
CHACCHOBEN RUINS SITE INFO:
The ride from Costa Maya to Chacchoben takes around 50 minutes.
Visitors are allowed to climb only a few steps of all the temples. All over the site there are yellow ropes marking how far visitors can climb. We recommend to respect the limits.
Our Chacchoben Mayan Ruins Tour is not very strenuous and doesn't include walking on uneven grounds. Total walking distance to see all sections available for visitors in Chacchoben is some 6-7 blocks. During our tour we walk this distance in around 1.5 hours.
The service area and facilities of Chacchoben are wheelchair accessible. Once inside the park, it is possible to complete the tour on a wheelchair with a little help.
Chacchoben Ruins site has a service area that includes clean rest room facilities and a cafeteria.
Locals from Chacchoben village have organized a small shopping area at the site where they offer souvenirs to the visitors. Most of the pieces available are made in our village and prices are definitely lower than at Costa Maya. Keep in mind that in places like Chacchoben you are expected to negotiate the prices, so be ready to exercise your Español and have some fun! --No credit cards accepted.--
